Our Story

History of The Black Pig

Black Pig was founded by Rob Hurrie, the chef and owner, and opened its doors in March 2013. Formally Margaux Restaurant, Rob’s idea was to create a place where people can not only go out to eat, but really experience the art of dining. We have carried over the same concepts and ideas of Margaux, however made our atmosphere and food more approachable to our community.

Rob purchased the entire building in 2015; then in late 2017 opened our banquet space, The Berkshire. The 10,000 square-foot space features its own kitchen, exposed beams and cream city brick. It is accessible by a separate entrance at the back of the building. It also features a main floor dining area and lofted space in the back.

Our food is created with love and passion, from scratch, to draw our customers into every detail and flavor of what they are eating. Our food is based not on the fact that eating is a mere necessity, but a luxury of art and flavors combining to create a memorable experience. Our core belief is that everything made in house from scratch yields the highest quality product possible. We will continue to source as much product from local farms as possible.

Behind The Name

Meaning Behind The Name

derived from a 300 year old world tradition

Black Pig derives its name from old world tradition, dating back to both England and Japan. Berkshire pork comes from a heritage breed pig. With a long history that goes back some 300 years in England, this black pig (hence our name!) is highly regarded for juicy, tender, and flavorful pork which is heavily marbled with fat. Known as Kurobuta pork in Japan, Berkshire is to pork what wagyu is to beef.
